New Year Wishes
Hi Everyone
Well here we are again - nearly at the end of another year and what a year it’s been!
What with losing Bruin, Beau and Bailey within the space of four months – along came this awful pandemic just to make sure that 2020 was a year that none of us will ever forget!
On a much happier note Banjo had her puppies back in April and we kept the lovely Noodles who makes us laugh every day… even when she’s been/being naughty – we’ve never had a puppy quite like her!
Let’s hope that 2021 is much, much better for everyone - take care, stay safe and wishing a very Happy New Year to all of you.
Kind thoughts
Ann, Frank and all the Mutts πΎπΎ |

Sad today as we said good bye to Bailey
Bailey
We are heartbroken (for the third time in just over 4 months) to announce that earlier yesterday we had to take the decision to let our beautiful baby girl Bailey (Bergleerson Sabre) pass over the Rainbow Bridge. π
She was diagnosed on the 11th September (two days after we lost our senior girl Beau) as having Lymphoma - the fact that she lasted 13 weeks from diagnosis is amazing in itself but last night (Thursday) she was telling Ann and I last night that it was time... so hard to do but the only thing to do.
She was the very first Bergleerson female puppy that we bred and we knew that the moment she was born that she (little Silver Girl) would be staying with us... she has been the most beautiful natured Leonberger all of her life - right up to her final moments this evening when she fell asleep at the vet`s in my arms I was with her when she was born and I was with her when she passed π. She could be a stubborn little bugger but she didn’t have a mean bone in her whole body. As an aside our Bailey didn’t even bark until she was about 6 years old!
We have so many special memories of our baby girl... the time(s) she wiped Ann out on our morning walks - one of, if not, the fastest Leonberger that we’ve ever had but her braking/steering skills were absolutely nonexistent. The time she (along with our Tehya) ‘rescued’ our Granddaughter Izzy at Bridlington whilst she was just having a paddle (up to her knees!) and the same at Fistral Beach in Cornwall but this time she (along with her sister Mishka and niece Ruby) created havoc trying to ‘rescue’ some Junior Surfing School pupils!! Always so very loving with every litter that we’ve had since she was born and the only one of our pack that was not ‘warned off’ by the puppies momma when she came to say hello/investigate - which sums up her nature perfectly.
We are very appreciative of the way Eva and Anya (at Greens Veterinary Practice, Sheffield) have supported us and the compassion they have displayed throughout - we are also so thankful to them for letting us (given the current circumstances re Covid-19) be with Bailey as she took her final journey.
We'll never forget you Bailey-boo and we miss you so much already. Rest easy over that Rainbow Bridge and play nicely with your momma Gracie, (sort of) brother Bruin and Auntie Beau - they’re all there waiting for you baby girl.ππΎ

Beau
Beau
We are deeply saddened to have to announce that yesterday our beautiful Beau (Pagency Kisfa Rihanna) had to take that dreaded trip across the Rainbow Bridge - it was all very sudden and so very unexpected. ππ
Beau had an operation about 10 days ago to remove a mammary tumour and she was recovering really well... Tuesday she was back to her normal happy, cheeky self and she was even playing with our puppy Noodles - she was even back to head-butting me with her ‘cone of shame’ that she was wearing to stop her chewing the stitches on her wound. Yesterday morning when we got up we noticed that she wasn’t her usual happy-go-lucky self but didn’t think too much of it thinking that the painkiller that she was on had not quite worn off.
We offered her a lamb’s neck and a chicken carcass both of which she ignored so, at this point, we were starting to become concerned because if there’s one thing our Beau loved it was her grub! Ann booked her in at the vet and we were due to take her in at 15:40 but told if we were concerned then to take her in straight away...
We took her across the way for a short walk and to see if eating some grass might make her feel better and she really wasn’t bothered at all. On the way back her rear end gave way and she was really struggling to walk - we eventually got her back on the drive and into Ann’s car and from there we went directly to the vet.
Eva (our vet) saw Beau on arrival and quickly confirmed that the poor girl had severe internal bleeding... totally unrelated to aforementioned operation - we were given the opportunity to let them carry out an operation to try and resolve the issue but the overall prognosis, given Beau’s age, was not particularly good. There was a very high risk that she might not survive the op and, even if she did, she would probably only have another three/four months at best. So, on that basis, we took the incredibly hard decision to let our baby girl go with dignity and us by her side...
We are very appreciative of the way Eva at Greens Veterinary Practice, Sheffield supported us at such short notice and the compassion that she displayed throughout - we are also so thankful to her for allowing us (given the current circumstances re Covid-19) to be with Beau as she took her final journey... can’t explain just how important this was to us.
We are so grateful that Beau came into our lives just over 10 years ago and we cannot thank Dianne and Alan at Pagency Leonbergers, Stoke on Trent enough for letting this beautiful girl share her life with us these past 10 plus Years.
We'll never forget you Beau and we both miss you so much already. Rest easy over that Rainbow Bridge old girl and make sure that you keep our Gracie and Bruin in line when you get there. πΎπΎπΎ

Mating
Hi,
We are pleased to say we have had a mating between Ruby (Bergleerson Conway) and Finley (Jantonely Private Finn at Lyndordream)
Ruby is due to have her 30 day scan around the 22nd September if successful puppies will be due around the 25th/26th October and due to leave around the 21st December
If you are interested in coming to meet us with a view to going on our Puppy Waiting List we will be making appointment to meet people after the 4th September.
We do have a waiting list
You are more than welcome to come visit us and meet our pack of mutts – our dogs range from 10 years 1 month old (Beau) old down to 22 week old (Noodles) so this gives you a wide range of Leo`s to see and interact with. If you do wish to visit us and our mutts (regardless as to whether or not you want to go our Puppy Waiting List) please use the aforementioned details to contact mobile 0788-637-7551.
For info - we will not consider reserving any puppy without having first met the prospective new owner(s)... we are based in Sheffield so hopefully this is not too far away from you – as mentioned previously you are more than welcome to come visit us and meet our lovely pack and there is obviously no obligation whatsoever to buy from us in the future!!
Best Regards
Ann & Frank Dutton

Today we are Heart Broken
Bruin
We are so very sad to announce that earlier today we had to take the (unfortunately not so difficult) decision to let our beautiful, wonderfully crazy, loving and oh so special boy Bruin (Plateau du Bavarois Machk Bruin) pass across that damn Rainbow Bridge.
He was diagnosed on the 31st December 2019 as having Osteosarcoma which first appeared on his front right paw - this proved, ultimately, to be inoperable... this time last week we were taking him to the vets to have his lower front leg amputated but the x-ray showed that the cancer had spread to his lungs and the vet advised that he would not survive the operation and so we brought him back home to see out his remaining days with us. We hoped to have at least a few more weeks with him but this turned out to be, because of the rapid deterioration in his health, barely 7 days.
Between then and now, Bruin has not suffered and, for that at least, we are very grateful. We are very appreciative of the way Eva (and other involved staff) at Greens Veterinary Practice, Sheffield have supported us and the compassion (along with tears from some of the supporting staff) they have displayed throughout - we are also so thankful to them for letting us (given the current circumstances re Covid-19) be with Bruin as he took his final journey.
Almost the worst part of this (from a purely selfish point of view) has been the fact that we had taken him for his last proper walk - and we obviously didn’t know this then...
We are so grateful that Bruin came into our lives from Brussels as a 15 Week old puppy and we cannot thank Nancy Spinnael enough for letting this most beautiful natured boy share his life with us these, almost to the day, past 7 Years.
We'll never forget you Bruin and we miss you so much already. Rest easy over that Rainbow Bridge (not so) old lad and be gentle with our girl Gracie when you get there.

21st July 2020 |
Such sad news today
Ann Dutton and I have just got back home from taking our oh so special boy Bruin to the vet. We went initially with the intention of him, subject to having the necessary pre-op checks being okay, having his front right paw amputated just above the elbow.
Unfortunately the chest x-rays have shown that the (expletive deleted) cancer has now spread on to his lungs and the vet advised that our old lad would not survive the surgery so we’re going to fetch him back home in a couple of hours once the pre-meds have worn off.
He was diagnosed on 31st January with Osteosarcoma and it was thought (at that time) that he had around 19 Weeks left... thankfully he has reached 28 Weeks thus far and we’ll hopefully have a few more weeks with him.
He is absolutely fine in himself - still bright eyed and bushy tailed, still has his appetite and is still trying to hump our Mishka(!) ... we think that, at the moment, the big lump doesn’t know quite how poorly he is - here’s hoping that that continues for a while yet.
Either way we’re going to wait for him to tell us when it’s time and I honestly think there’s more chance of us killing him with kindness than the effing cancer getting him!
I‘ve never met a mutt like him before - he’s touched everyone that he’s ever met and I just cannot believe how he is with his Granddaughter Noodles ... so patient and gentle - as he has been with all the puppies that we’ve had since we first brought him home from Nancy Spinnael in Brussels.
We’ll keep you informed as things progress/regress.
Take care all. |
